Part-time participants
Participants who are part-time can register online to become distance learners, with core course material available online and support from course staff via email, as well as linked support resources in the information hub and discussion forums. Part-time students are encouraged to attend the introductory meeting and the field trip on which the major project is based. Part-time participants who live nearby the CPUT campus in Bellville are also welcome to attend the weekly evening lectures on the full-time programme.
Full-time students
Full-time students will register in person at CPUT on a web-assisted learning basis and have access to all the web-based resources. Weekly contact lecture sessions and discussions will be conducted as supplementary tuition.
Accreditation and Certification
The course is a South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) accredited degree offering. Students wishing to pursue it for non-degree purposes will need a matriculation certificate (or equivalent) or other acceptable prior learning. A certificate endorsed by CPUT will be issued to all successful candidates. Special awards for outstanding contributions from learners will be given after course completion.

A limited number of bursaries will be available from the DLIST project (funded by the Global Environment Facility through the UNDP).
